Guidelines in taking care of mouth guards

When you are washing or scrubbing your MMA mouth guards because you think it’s getting smelly and it doesn’t look good like the way it did before, there are certain guidelines that you should keep in mind to properly take care of it and avoid damaging your appliance.

Always keep it away from hot temperatures

Mouth guards are made of plastic, therefore, keeping it close to heat or in hot temperatures is not a good idea. You should always keep it away from heat because too much exposure to heat will cause your plastic to deform.

Also, do not let it sit under direct sunlight for a long time. Instead, place it on hot surfaces or place it in a room with hot temperatures.

Always store it in its case

Your mouth guard comes with a case when you first purchase it. To avoid too much exposure to hot temperatures, it is highly recommended that you store it in its hard and ventilated case to protect it from potential damages.

Prevent staining it as much as possible

If your mouth guard is made from a light-colored plastic, you must prevent it from staining. To do so, while you are still wearing your guard, avoid drinking dark beverages such as tea, coffee, and soda.

Keep it away from your pets

It may sound a little silly, but pets, especially dogs can be easily attracted to mouth guards, mostly because of its smell, so make sure you keep it away from them, or it’ll end up being their chewing toy.
